"In the Bible ‘heaven’ isn’t ‘the place where people go when they die.’ In the Bible heaven is God’s space while earth (or, if you like, ‘the cosmos’ or ‘creation’) is our space. And the Bible makes it clear that the two overlap and interlock. For the ancient Jews, the place where this happened was the temple; for the Christians, the place where this happened was Jesus himself, and then, astonishingly, the persons of Christians because they, too, were ‘temples’ of God’s own spirit."
Hier heb ik gisteren ook over geschreven: het verschil tussen motivatie van buitenaf en motivatie van binnenuit: "The sickness of religious idolatry can be measured by the extent to which it forces you to comply to standards of holiness in order to belong. There isn’t anything wrong with the standards of holiness – we need those! But it gets a little dicey in my mind when we rely solely on external motivation (i.e. “comply to our standards, or else!”) to get the job done. Because, of course, the most significant holiness can only come from the inside out, born of the Spirit. This is the difference between compelled obedience and inspired obedience. Legislating holiness can only deal with the outward symptoms of sin, but it rarely gets to the heart of the matter."
Oh, en vandaag is het volgens sommige gelovigen tijd voor de dag des oordeels. Chaplain Mike op Internetmonk heeft een paar pittige woorden te zeggen over de theologie van de opname en het dispensationalisme waar die uit voortkomt. "All the magnificent animated three dimensional literature of the Scriptures became flattened, reduced to a blueprint or series of mathematical formulae. Not only that, but the system seemed to miss (or at least downplay) the most important theological point of all—that Jesus and the story of him told in the Gospels is the pinnacle of God’s plan, the fulfillment of his promises. There will be one Second Coming, one return, one glorious “appearing” of the Lord Jesus Christ when he comes to consummate his triumphant finished work. It’s time to leave behind puzzle piece theology and read the Bible more carefully as it is given to us, not as we dissect it and put it back together."
