Intelligente planten, Camelot, Airbenders, reductionisme en God als 'drama queen'

Planten zijn levende wezens, maar je zou het op het eerste gezicht bijna niet zeggen. Ze kunnen zich niet bewegen, ze kunnen niet werkelijk reageren op signalen, ze staan maar een beetje te staan (behalve sommige vleesetende planten. Die zijn cool). Maar nu blijkt dat planten wel degelijk beschikken over een vorm van intelligentie. Planten kunnen onthouden door welke lichtgolflengte ze beschenen zijn, zodat ze zich daaraan kunnen aanpassen. Dit zouden een soort berekeningen zijn. Zoals het bericht zegt: de dag van de Triffids kan nu niet meer ver weg zijn ...

Een erg hete planeet heeft een staart als een komeet ...

Volgens sommigen is het kasteel van Arthur (Camelot) met bijbehorende 'ronde tafel' gevonden. Het zou gaan om de britse plaats Chester. De ronde tafel zou een amfitheater zijn geweest.

Pixar gaat toch vervolgfilms op video uitbrengen. De eerste wordt Planes, uit dezelfde wereld als Cars. Niet de beste Pixar-film in mijn nederige opinie, maar zeker vermakelijk.

Komt er een vervolg op de tekenfilmserie Avatar - The last airbender?

First Things vraagt zich af waarom de reductionistische blik op de persoon, het 'ik', tegenwoordig zo populair is. Hun conclusie: hij ontslaat ons van verantwoordelijkheid. "Free will gives life its drama. But a life without drama is less stressful, less perilous, less urgent, less tense, and the therapists recommend stress reduction. If I’m just DNA trying to out compete other DNA, the mess I make of my life doesn’t matter, and it may even help the onward evolution of the species."

Henk Medema onderzoekt de kansen en uitdagingen van de sociale media voor de christelijke communicatie. In Christianity Today vraagt Mark Galli zich af waarom God zich gedraagt als 'drama queen': "God is like the volatile Italian woman who, upon discovering her husband's unfaithfulness, yells and throws dishes, refuses to sleep in the same bed, and doesn't speak to him for 40 days and 40 nights." Hij suggereert dat de reden is dat wij mensen te klein over onszelf denken. Wij denken over onszelf dat we 'maar menselijk' zijn, terwijl God ons ziet als zijn kostbare beelddragers, met een unieke bestemming. "Our God cares about us frail, fickle, weak human beings because he knows something we often forget: we're not "just human." He'll go to any length to get us to grasp and live into our glory, even if it kills him."

Linda op Kingdom Grace vraagt zich af of 'allen' in het Nieuwe Testament niet gewoon 'allen' betekent. "The gospel has never been about qualifying people for salvation, it is about letting them know the really good news . . . that they are already loved and embraced by the Father." Amen!

Een onverwachte aanleiding om het te hebben over genade op de blog Faith and Geekery (waarom zou ik die nou volgen?) "The problem with moralism is that it’s not a belief that has a strong view of sin. It thinks sin is weak and easily manageable.
